Introducing: The Style Narrative
Welcome back, everyone.
Question of the week that I have absolutely no answer to is: Why do we wear what we wear?
And I don’t mean this in a mimetic desire-type of way or a status signaling type of way, I mean it at the level of What’s Your Style Narrative?
This is why I’m not posting photos here of me wearing the clothes each week or links to 90 different black ribbed tank tops after I wear said tank top on repeat. I’m hoping that you might look at some of the flat lays or style notes and see something that clicks for you in your own closet in your own way. Or you might see that I wear the same outfit a lot (hello, black tank and shorts!) and feel seen in that, too! It’s real life.
So what’s a Style Narrative? Honestly, as I am typing, I am thinking is that it’s accumulation of the experiences we have had with clothes across our lifetime, the stories we tell ourselves about that, and how they impact the clothes we wear today. Sort of like the money narratives the personal finance people walk through, except for the clothes we wear.

According to a quick Google search, no one else is talking about this and I think it might be worth sorting out together. If it goes according to a very loose plan, this will be a sometimes-series. Stay tuned, friends!
